The annual John Morris Golf Classic was created by friends of the Morris’ family along with many people in the horse industry, including THE NATIONAL THOROUGHBRED RACING ASSOCIATION, DAILY RACING FORM, ADENA SPRINGS, ROBERTS COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK, THE STRONACH GROUP, BREEDERS' CUP, BOLTON & COMPANY and RAISING CANE'S of LEXINGTON. All dedicated valuable resources to create the inaugural golf event in 2012. An Online Auction is held in conjunction with the John Morris Golf Classic and features sports memorabilia, event tickets, artwork and other items.
The funds raised annually at the John Morris Golf Classic and Online Auction, through other fundraising efforts and by individual donors throughout the year are directed to the John Joseph Morris Trust, which assists with Johnny’s rehabilitation expenses. Johnny was born in New Hampshire and currently resides in Lexington, KY. John suffered paralysis in a freak accident at his apartment in July 2012. Growing up Johnny was a champion hockey player who loved the outdoors, friends and being around the horse industry that his family has been involved with for many years.
In 2013, the JJMT donated $25,000 to the Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital in order to secure new equipment for its patients like Johnny, who has spent much of the past year undertaking physical therapy at the acclaimed facility. As an ambitious, driven young man, Johnny has plans to mentor other less fortunate people at Cardinal Hill that have been paralyzed or injured and are currently in need of a positive influence and reassurance.
In 2014, the Morris Family has designated Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital and the Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund as major recipients of all related fundraising efforts.
